A British Airways pilot made 'beyond a rookie error' when he by accident triggered the emergency slide seconds earlier than take-off.

BA flight BA886 was able to depart from Heathrow Airport at 9.55am on Saturday when the emergency slide was activated.

The activation of the inflatable slide meant the aircraft could not take off, delaying the flight for hours and reportedly costing the airline £50,000.

Emergency providers rushed to gate 24E, and passengers needed to await more than three hours to proceed their journey to Romania.

The Solar studies that the captain was immediately taken off flying duties.

He allegedly did not disarm the aircraft door when he opened it to cross paperwork to members of the crew. If the door had been disarmed, the slide wouldn't have deployed.

A supply told The Sun: 'The captain of all individuals would have recognized the security guidelines around opening doors.

'That is past a rookie error. It's completely baffling to know.'
