A cowboy builder scammed almost £650,000 out of victims including a widow, disabled individuals and the household of a terminally ailing man.

Lawrence Martin, 36, pressured shoppers into paying him tens of hundreds of kilos in deposits despite having no roofing qualifications.

The Southampton man's fraud left individuals with wrecked houses, empty financial institution accounts, and cleared-out life financial savings over a period of almost 5 years. One couple misplaced greater than £110,000.

Some of his 50 victims in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been left in tears and forced to vary their locks to stop him from returning.

Prosecutor Ethu Crorie described Martin as 'basically dishonest', telling Southampton Crown Courtroom: 'He seemed that he was a profitable and professional dealer.

Dad-of-four Martin was jailed for 5 years after admitting two counts of fraudulent buying and selling and considered one of fraud, dedicated whereas sole director of Eastleigh-based firm CLJ roofing and when he continued together with his personal personal checking account, between January 2018 and October 2022.
