Alison Sweeney is a self-proclaimed "big" Jane Austen fan, however it wasn't until she watched Keri Russell's Austenland that her fandom sparked a Hallmark Channel movie concerning the writer.
"Keri Russell did this cute film referred to as Austenland, and I used to be just in my lodge filming a Christmas movie referred to as Open by Christmas," Sweeney, 47, solely advised Us Weekly, recalling how the thought for Hallmark's Love & Jane happened. "I simply watched this film one night time [as] TV candy, eye sweet, just to loosen up at the finish of the night time."
Sweeney remembered waking up the subsequent morning and telling her Open by Christmas director, David Weaver, concerning the 2013 Austen-themed movie. Austenland follows Austen-obsessed fan Jane Hayes (Russell) as she goes to a theme park concerning the writer in hopes of discovering her perfect gentleman suitor.

"I was like, 'There's this cute film. I can't consider I never saw it,'" she stated. "And he's like, 'Oh, do you want Jane Austen?' And I, in fact, instantly launched into every little thing I really like about Jane Austen."
That chat led to Weaver telling Sweeney that he had a "pitch" about an Austen-inspired Hallmark rom-com. "That's the way it started. It began from probably the most sincere potential Jane Austen fan dialog," Sweeney revealed.
Sweeney, who plays Lilly in Love & Jane, famous that when she heard the pitch, she was all-in. "I jumped and grabbed on with each palms, like, 'We've acquired to do this,'" she informed Us, adding that working as an government producer on the venture made it that rather more "fun."

"Working with [David] as the author and simply creating this concept for Hallmark and bringing all of it the best way to fruition, it's just really rewarding," Sweeney explained. "And as a real Jane Austen-ophile, I felt the position from day one. From the primary second, I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, this is so me. It's just how I really feel.'"
Within the movie, which premieres on Saturday, February 10, Sweeney's Lilly comes face-to-face with Austen, her favourite writer, throughout her time of romantic need. With Austen's help, Lilly realizes what she needs in life and love whereas operating the Jane Austen Society in Boston.

In addition to liking the film's nod to Clueless and Austen's novels Pride and Prejudice and Emma, Sweeney informed Us she enjoyed bantering with longtime good friend Benjamin Ayres throughout their "twin" scene. Ayres, 47, performs Lilly's love interest, Trevor, in the film.
"[When] they battle their wits with the quotes from the ebook, I labored actually exhausting," Sweeney recalled. "You can't wing it with quotes out of your favourite authors. So, we labored really onerous on that, and that was all scripted, very meticulously."
Love & Jane premieres on Hallmark Channel Saturday, February 10, at 8 p.m. ET.
