Clayton Echard, 28, is the new Bachelor for the upcoming season, which was confirmed by ABC. He hails from Eureka, Missouri, and was reportedly a professional football player. Echard played for the Missouri Tigers in 2012 prior to being drafted for the National Football League four years later. In 2016 he was signed to the Seattle Seahawks. It is unclear when he left the NFL but according to his Instagram bio, he is now in orthopedic sales.

Sources told the outlet that producers quickly fell in love with him and he rose to the top of the network's shortlist. Prior to the beginning of Young's season of The Bachelorette, it appears Echard's season of The Bachelor already started production. Photos leaked of Echard with a camera crew, which was published by E! News on September 15. The official reveal of Echard joining the Bachelor came at the end of Tuesday's Bachelorette episode. Michelle Young went on her hometown dates with her final four men and narrowed it down to just three guys. In the first teaser for the Bachelor, Echard said: ...I'm just a Midwest guy from Missouri that just wants to find love. ...And I believe more than anything that my future wife is here....
